Oh hello there, Valentine’s Day. Nice to see you again.
It seems as though there are two kinds of people in this world: those that love Valentine’s Day and those that think it’s a silly materialistic holiday. As for me, you can find me in the former group of folks surrounded by flowers, a glass of rose’, some chocolate-covered strawberries, and more likely than not, many different shades of the color pink.
Because love is in the air — or maybe that’s just the smell of the Valentines cookies baking — I’ve compiled a list of some of the most romantic places we’ve explored so far. These divine destinations are the epitome of a romantic getaway; so grab yourself a glass of wine (hey it’s five o’clock somewhere) and lets explore!
-
Mo’orea, French Polynesia
Of course I had to start this list with the most romantic place on earth. Overwater bungalows, jungles straight out of Tarzan, and a crystal clear lagoon set the stage for an enchanted tropical adventure. Everything about Mo’orea is magical and during our stay it often felt as though we were living in a fairy-tale. -
NaPali Coast, Kauai, Hawaii
Okay, full disclosure on this one: We were engaged along the NaPali Coast. Baised. Perhaps, but a sunset sail along that chiseled emerald coastline and you’ll be swooning, too. As the saying goes, “All you need is love and a sunset.” 🙂 -
U.S. Virgin Islands
Could it be any more romantic to spend the day sailing around the U.S. Virgin Islands? I think not. The bluest of waters, bright-green islands dotting the horizon, and a beautiful sailboat all sound like something found within the glossy pages of any travel magazine; however don’t be fooled, this isn’t a magazine spread, its real life. Grab a few beverages, kick up your feet, and wait for the sunset. You can thank me later. 😉
-
Maui, Hawaii
Wai’anapanapa State Park There’s a reason why Maui is ranked one of the top Honeymoon destinations in the world: fantastic beaches, incredible snorkeling, fancy resorts, and an abundance of delicious restaurants are just a few of the highlights. Simply put, Maui has it all.
-
Geirangerfjord, Norway
So many waterfalls in Geirangerfjord Did you think that all of my favorite romantic destinations would include bikini attire? 🙂 I knew that I would love Norway because of my family ties to the country, yet I never expected that the tiny town of Geiranger would sweep me off of my feet. This small nordic town at the end of the fjord is filled with charm and beckons visitors to explore. Take a leisurely afternoon stroll (hand in hand, of course) and see what treasures you’ll uncover.
Easily the most romantic places; Capri in the summer when you’re young, Ischia in the off-season in middle-age. Will have to get back to you on the old age place in a decade or so.
I’ve always wanted to go to Italy. 🙂 When we go, I’ll make sure we swing by Capri. Thanks for sharing your great locations! 🙂
Amica, you will enjoy every minute! It’s impossible to eat a bad meal, and romance awaits upon every corner. I’d list out more favorite places, but that’s as fruitless as listing the best places to have a first kiss. They’re all good.
Prioritize getting to Bella Italia, it will be well worth your while.
It all sounds so wonderful. 🙂 We’re hoping to get there sometime in the next two years (keeping our fingers crossed). I’ve been looking at photos of both Ischia and Capri this evening. And WOW! So glad you shared these destinations. Thank you! Or should I say, Grazie! 🙂
Lovely destinations! I think Mauritius is romantic and certain places in Thailand too. My friend is currently in Maui (so jealous) I would love to visit 😊
Great suggestions! I’ll have to look into Mauritius, we’ve never been there. I alllllllmost included Koh Samui but decided to keep the list to a minimum. 🙂 Where is your favorite place in Thailand?
I used to think it was Mo’orea and/or Bora Bora, but last September we were in Venice, Italy in a room with a balcony overlooking the intersection of two canals … but then there is Santorini (our honeymoon) and a luxury camp in South Africa, where we could see elephants from our deck … well, then there are places we’ve yet to see … romance is found within our love …
Belinda, you have been to some incredible places! 🙂
Italy and Greece are on our travel horizon over the next couple of years. They both sound so romantic. We’re also planning for Paris and Fiji soon as well. So many places, so little time. And your trip to South Africa sounds absolutely amazing. I would love to see elephants from our room!! One day we will have to make a trip like that happen.
I totally agree that romance is found within love. One could travel to a very modest place (or even stay home) and still find romance — as long as you’re with your one and only. 🙂
Happy Valentine’s day my friend!
