“2018: A New Year. New Passport Stamps.” 🙂
It’s that time again. Time to dust off the travel guides, embrace the wanderlust, and take a peek at our globe-trotting horizon for 2018. Over the last few months we’ve spent a lot of our free time researching and planning these next few getaways, and we are SO EXCITED for the adventures coming up this year! We have plans to cross off three different bucket list items, see at least five new countries, and accomplish a few more of my 101 goals. It’s going to be an exciting year!
As mentioned in my last post, we’re kicking off the new year with our annual Christmas Trip. It has been almost five years since we pulled out the life vests and sailed out to sea, so we’re looking forward to our long-over-due week-long Western Caribbean Cruise. (Full disclosure: We may also be sliiiiightly excited for the endless amounts of ice cream on board as well). 😉
We’ve traveled throughout the Caribbean — from the Bahamas all the way down to Barbados, and quite a few islands in between — however, we’ve never been to Central America, and we are thrilled for the opportunity to see a new part of this beautiful world.

After our winter getaway, we’ll welcome in spring with a spring-time escape to Sin City. It has been over five years since we’ve had a weekend of debauchery in this desert adult playground, and we’re looking forward to another encounter with Lady Luck. The best part about this trip is that our best friends are coming along for the ride as well!

As most of my regular readers already know, Cody and I visit a new destination every anniversary — over the last six years we’ve jet-setted across the globe, from Norway, to Thailand, to Mo’orea, Turks & Caicos, and more — and the anniversary tradition continues this year. We are over-the-moon-excited to announce that we are headed to a new island in the South Pacific this summer: FIJI!
We haven’t finalized all of our plans at this point, however, I imagine that we will do what most Castaways do, and spend our days hiking, sailing, island hopping, scuba diving, and relaxing with a few Fiji Golds.
**You can’t see me, but I’m totally doing a happy dance thinking about this trip.**
Later this summer we are checking back into the “boat life” and heading to Lake Powell for a special birthday adventure with our family. We are renting a houseboat which will add a touch of luxury to an otherwise remote destination and we are looking forward to spending quality time with our sweet family at one of our favorite locations in Utah.

And finally, we have a few smaller adventures in the works — I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we can make those dreams a reality. After all, I still have one more National Park in Utah to cross off of my 101 goal list, there’s been discussion about a possible girl’s weekend getaway, and maybe we’ll even fit in a fall football game… Stay tuned!
Have you been to any of the destinations above? I’d love to hear your advice, recommendations, and travel tips. Let’s meet up down in the comments! 🙂
Share in the Wanderlust! What adventures are on your 2018 travel calendar?
Be sure to spend some time in downtown Vegas. It’s very much the old school kitchy Las Vegas from the ’50’s and a it’s a blast
Hi Carol,
Thanks! We love Freemont Street. 🙂 We will definitely have to go back and check it out as it’s been years since we’ve visited. Great suggestion!
You’ll love the ocean life in Fiji! I’ve been a couple of times and each time stayed at Octopus Resort in the Yasawa Islands . My stays were 10 years apart and it was every bit as charming second time around.
Hi Jayne,
Thank you so much for the suggestion. I have to admit, it was difficult to choose an island as they all looked so beautiful and had so much to offer. 🙂 I’m excited for the diving, hoping to see some larger animals. Thanks for stopping by.
What an awesome adventure! I want to go to Fiji so bad! You guys must be so excited! I can’t wait to read all about it!
Thanks, for stopping by NieNie. 🙂 We are so excited for Fiji. I’m looking forward to diving.
Looks like you had a wonderful time 😊 Thanks for sharing x
We are looking forward to an adventurous 2018. 🙂
Sounds like a fun year! I love how you plan out your travel for the year — always something to look forward to. 🙂
Love having trips to look forward to! 🙂 We like to plan in advance to make sure we can take time off of work and plan accordingly. Love the planning stage. 🙂 Where is your next adventure taking you?
Ooh Fiji sounds great! This year I have 2 trips to Canada planned. I’ve only been to Victoria in BC, so I am excited to see a few other cities (especially Montreal). Also I just got back from New Orleans!
I have always wanted to go to New Orleans! It looks so fun, and the food seems like it would be amazing.
I am excited to hear about your trip to Montreal. Maybe you already have plans of visiting, but you should totally go to Banff when you get the chance. It is crazy beautiful there! 🙂
Happy travels!!
You won’t be disappointed with Fiji. Back in the 70’s I used to be there every 2 weeks. Hoping to return 1 day in not too distant future.
YAY! That makes me happy to hear. 🙂 Do you have a favorite region/area in Fiji. We have a few different islands/areas in mind, but would love to hear about your favorites. 🙂
I hope you get to return there soon! It will be our first time, and it looks so amazing.
